The Nassau County Office of the Fourth Judicial Circuit Public Defender is located in Suite 2065 of the Robert M. Foster Justice Center in Yulee, FL. Director Chris Clayton oversees four Assistant Public Defenders, three legal assistants and one investigator. Nassau County has one Circuit Court division where three APD’s are assigned to represent clients facing felonies. Two attorneys manage misdemeanor caseloads in the County Court division; one of the APD’s also advocates for children in the single Nassau County Juvenile Court division. Clients battling mental health disorders in Nassau County may gain admittance into Mental Health Court, a rehabilitative, Problem Solving Court offered on a restrictive basis but has shown to be a proven method for individuals to address a mental health issue that has caused a criminal offense. All attorneys are assigned to first appearance court on a rotational basis.
